How Districts Get Ahead of Chronic Absenteeism
Before the School Year Starts
By the time a student crosses the chronic absentee threshold, it’s an uphill battle to get them back.
The districts seeing drastic improvements in attendance aren’t working harder. They’re starting earlier, with better data and by letting automation handle the volume so their people can focus on the families who need the most support.
In this webinar with District Administration, SchoolStatus Attend experts will walk through the early intervention strategies that work and live examples of how SchoolStatus supports districts at every step.

Meet the Speakers
Dr. Kara Stern has seen school from just about every angle: high school English teacher, middle school principal, fellowship director for math and science teachers across New York City, and head of school at a rural N-12 school. That breadth is what she brings to her work at SchoolStatus, where she writes, speaks, and challenges educators to build the kinds of school communities where every student thrives. She holds a Master’s in Education Leadership from Teachers College and a Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning from NYU.
Nichelle is a former educator who now works with districts across the country to address chronic absenteeism. After speaking to hundreds, she’s ready to share the lessons she’s learned, including how the districts with the best results are leveraging data, thinking about family engagement, and tiering their approach to interventions.
Abbey Thering is a former school psychologist who approaches her work at SchoolStatus with deep curiosity. She works with districts to help them set up processes that uncover the stories behind absenteeism. She deeply believes that every absence has a story, and when schools and districts can uncover it, they bring students back and accelerate student progress.
