SchoolStatus Privacy Notice for Minnesota Residents

This Minnesota Privacy Notice applies to Minnesota residents whose personal information SchoolStatus processes subject to Minnesota law. Minnesota law requires businesses that determine the purpose and means of processing personal data (“Data Controllers”) to make certain disclosures and offer data rights. SchoolStatus provides products and solutions that support teachers, educators, coaches, counselors, and administrators at schools (our “Services”).

When account contacts or administrators (collectively, “Contacts”) are designated or otherwise set up to help manage the delivery of our Services, we may be Data Controllers of personal data related to Contacts. This notice is addressed to Contacts, to customer prospects whose data we may collect online, through in-person events, through social media, or from other third parties (“Prospects”), and to visitors (“Visitors”) to our website at https://www.schoolstatus.com and to other websites we control and on which this notice appears (collectively, our “Website”). In particular, this notice is addressed to Contacts, Prospects, and Visitors that are Minnesota residents.

These disclosures and rights may not apply where SchoolStatus is not processing your personal data or where SchoolStatus is processing data on behalf of its clients, such as schools. If you are a school employee, teacher, or other staff member or professional, or a student or parent and have questions about how our clients collect and process your personal information, including via our Services, please contact them directly or refer to their privacy notices.

If you are a Website Visitor, your browser or device may be subject to our collection of logging and other automatically collected information (collectively, “Usage Data”). Visitors please note that third parties may collect personal information about your online activities over time and across third-party websites and online services. These third parties may provide us information in connection with content, widgets, components, cookies, or other tools offered on our Website. We may not control personal information once collected by these parties.

Your Rights and Choices

As a Minnesota resident, you have specific rights regarding your personal information, subject to certain exceptions and limitations available under law. This section describes and explains how to exercise those rights.

  • Right to Know and Access. You have the right to confirm whether or not we are processing personal data concerning you and to access the categories of personal data we are processing.
  • Right to Correct. You have the right to correct inaccurate personal data concerning you, taking into account the nature of the personal data and the purposes of the processing of the personal data.
  • Right to Delete. You have the right to delete personal data concerning you.
  • Portability/Right to Obtain. Where the processing of your personal data is carried out by automated means, you have the right to obtain personal data concerning you, which you previously provided to us, in a portable and, to the extent technically feasible, readily usable format that allows you to transmit the data to another Data Controller without hindrance.
  • List of Third Parties. You have the right to obtain a list of the specific third parties to which we have disclosed your personal data. If we do not maintain this information in a format specific to you, we may instead provide you a list of the categories of third parties to which we have disclosed any consumer’s personal data.
  • Opt Out of Targeted Advertising. You have the right to opt out of the processing of personal data concerning you for purposes of targeted advertising. To exercise this right to opt out, you may opt out of certain third party cookies via our cookie manager at https://www.schoolstatus.com/cookie-policy. “Targeted advertising” is defined as “displaying advertisements to a consumer where the advertisement is selected based on personal data obtained or inferred from the consumer’s activities over time and across nonaffiliated websites or online applications to predict the consumer’s preferences or interests.”
  • Opt Out of Selling. As described above, we may process personal information for targeted advertising. Otherwise, we do not sell your personal information (and we do not sell personal information we have collected to third parties for use in targeted advertising). 
Exercising Your Rights

To exercise your consumer rights, please submit a request by either:

You may designate an authorized agent to opt out of the processing of your personal data for purposes of targeted advertising and sale on your behalf. You may designate an authorized agent by way of, among other things, a technology, including but not limited to an internet link or a browser setting, browser extension, or global device setting, indicating your intent to opt out of the processing. We may, as permitted by law, deny your request if we cannot, through reasonable effort, verify your identity or your authorized agent’s authority to act on your behalf. 

You are allowed to opt out of any processing of your personal data for the purposes of targeted advertising, or any sale of your personal data through an opt-out preference signal sent, with your consent, by a platform, technology, or mechanism to us indicating your intent to opt out of the processing or sale.

Your Right to Appeal

Data Storage and Retention

We may store your personal information until the purpose for its collection has been fully completed, including the purposes described in our general Privacy Notice and this Minnesota Privacy Notice. If you consent to a new or additional purpose for retaining your data, your personal information may be stored for longer. 

For personal information collected via our products and services, data retention is based on the contract or contract term with our customer. Business communications may be retained indefinitely as needed to prove and provide services, manage account relationships, and for archival purposes. Online analytics, web log information, sales and prospect information may be retained indefinitely as permitted by law. At the end of that retention period, all data is deleted unless subject to an exception under law.

Your Right to Revoke Consent
