SchoolStatus Launches Literacy Solution to Help Districts Engage Families in Improving Reading Outcomes

TL;DR: School communities are made up of more than just academics. But when it comes to reaching families, communication about academics is often handled differently than outreach from sports coaches or club sponsors. Joinable Classrooms, launching for the 2026-2027 school year, changes that by allowing districts to house all school communications in one place.
Education is about more than just what happens at a desk. Sports teams, music groups, and clubs are integral to student growth and vibrant school communities. Since these activities often bring together kids from different grades and buildings, communicating with everyone at once has always been a challenge.
Most parents are overwhelmed by “tech fatigue.” They don’t want to log into one app for math class, another for soccer, and then look through emails for the school play. Until now, many school communications solutions haven’t been flexible enough to handle everything that happens after school.
SchoolStatus Connect is closing this gap with a new feature called Joinable Classrooms. We’ve taken the same easy-to-use system teachers use for the classroom and opened it up to the rest of the school. Now, coaches and club leaders can communicate with families in the same place where they already receive academic updates. When schools use SchoolStatus Connect to handle both academic and athletic communication, families can find all of the information they need about their children in one place.
Getting every member of the team, club, or activity into the same place in SchoolStatus Connect is easy. Families and students can join the classroom by scanning a QR code, entering the unique join code, or being added by the faculty sponsor.
Once a group is created, it feels exactly like the SchoolStatus experience you already know. Leaders can keep everyone on the same page by posting announcements, sending two-way messages to families, and adding games or events to a shared calendar. Most importantly, it keeps the playing field level: every update is automatically translated into over 130 languages and delivered however the family prefers—whether that’s through email, a text, or the app.
Simplicity is obviously a major perk of centralized communications, but it’s far from the only benefit.
Now, coaches and club leaders have a holistic view of students and can provide another avenue of support. If the volleyball coach can see that one of her players showed up late the day after an away match, she now has the knowledge and means to ensure game travel doesn’t interfere with academics.
In addition to individual student support, the addition of SchoolStatus Connect Joinable Classrooms makes consistent, secure messaging easier districtwide. By consolidating the number of communication tools needed to reach families, district leaders have greater management and oversight over the messages going out to families.
Parents and guardians don’t think of their child as Daniel the student, Daniel the baseball player, and Daniel the chess club member. To them, he’s just Daniel. They don’t want to search for updates and messages for each activity in separate apps, emails, and texts.
Being able to understand what’s happening with their child holistically is a major improvement to the family experience. And having all messages in a central location reduces the risk that important communications fall through the cracks.

SchoolStatus Connect gives educators a clear, holistic picture of student progress, so they know who needs outreach, when, and why. Instead of sending the same message to everyone, educators can reach the right families with relevant, timely information grounded in real data. The result is communication that families actually engage with, and relationships that strengthen over time.
No. Joinable Classrooms is a feature coming to SchoolStatus Connect for the 2026-2027 school year. When it launches, athletic coaches and club leaders can add students to “classrooms” and take advantage of all of the great features in SchoolStatus Connect.
The schools that do this well focus less on how many messages they send and more on what those messages are about. Families pay attention when communication is relevant to their child specifically, arrives early enough to be useful, and gives them something they can act on.
