We’re not the only ones predicting that 2015 will be the year of instructional leadership.
Take a look at the latest post from Amber Teamann’s Love Learn Lead blog: Texas Leadership Standard: Instructional Leader.
Teamann’s been doing her homework, exploring definitions of leadership and identifying the primary responsibilities of instructional leaders. Her key takeaway from her research Texas’s leadership standard?
She adds,
“You hire the very best person for the job. You then retain those excellent teachers! If you don’t feel like the very best person is in that spot, you do what you can to make them better.”
Hear, hear! TeachBoost wholeheartedly supports this approach. We’ve built a software platform that helps teachers, coaches, and administrators turn every interaction into an opportunity for professional growth and instructional improvement. This directly contributes to the development and retention of excellent educators at all levels.
Teamann goes on to lay out four characteristics of an instructional leader:
This echoes the sentiments of our internal team, many of our school and district partners, as well as that of our friends at The Principal Center, with whom we co-host theInstructional Leadership Challenge.
In fact, our back-to-school webinar series focused on the essential qualities of instructional leaders, and if you browse the series archive you’ll find deep-dives, discussions, and debates around all four of Teamann’s characteristics.
