The Modern Educator | Tessa Trimm

Data-driven. Passionate. Analytical. Innovative. That's you. That's the Modern Educator. You recognize that being an educator means using data and technology to see the unique story and experience of each child.

The Modern Educator series seeks to highlight the individuals who have dedicated their lives to improving education. You motivate us. You inspire us. We salute you.

I am excited this month to be sitting down with the assistant principal from Petal Primary School,
Tessa Beacham Trimm. After nearly 15 years in education, Tessa still brings an inspirational and humble approach to her work.

Robert Reeder:
Thanks for being our 'Modern Educator' this month, Tessa! We are happy to have you! First question: Why did you choose a career in education?

Tessa Trimm: I have always been drawn to teaching young children. When I was 16 years old,
I began coaching kids which led to wanting to become a teacher.

RR:
That's a pretty early start! What would you say is your greatest accomplishment so far?

TT: I haven't attained it yet, but I strive to serve others each and everyday. One day when I'm asked to give an account on my life, I hope that I can stand and say that I served well.

RR:
That is very admirable. If you could make a big change to education in the United States, what would it be?

TT: I would like to see public preschools in all states.

RR: I'm sure there are many people who would agree with you! Ok, now for some fun questions: If you could meet anyone in history, who would it be?
TT: I would love to meet Louie Giglio

RR:
Would you rather fly or be invisible?

TT: Invisible!

RR:
Haha! Ok, last question, What advice would you give someone starting out in a career in education?

TT: Always start with the child, build a strong nurturing relationship with the child and his/her family. Then continue to learn everyday; lots of things in education change, but what will always remain is the teacher and the student - a student who feels safe and loved is ready to learn.

RR:
That was beautifully spoken, Tessa. Thank you so much for sharing with us, and for your dedication to students!
